How it works

TAASC is a year-round, after-school program for students aged 8 - 18yrs.  Over the course of a year there are approximately 80 days of programming opportunity for students.

Weekly Meetings
Our students meet once a week after school where they learn skills applicable to outdoor leadership and personal development. They also learn technical skills for upcoming wilderness activities such as climbing, navigation, and camp-craft. Sometimes we participate in community service projects during after-school meetings.

There are 3 meetings to choose from depending on student age or location:

Tuesdays 3.30 - 5pm: Meeting for ages 8 - 13 at Carolina Day School
Thursdays 3.30 - 5pm: Meeting for ages 8 - 13 at Evergreen School
Thursdays 6.00pm - 7.30pm: Meeting for ages 13 - 18 at Beaverdam venue

(Click on "Schedule" above for more details, directions etc.)

Weekend Adventures
Students attend one weekend trip per month. These trips are a wilderness experience, a community service experience, or a combination of both. These trips provide our students opportunity to practice skills learned during weekly meetings and the chance to set and achieve personal and group goals as well.

Summer Expeditions
10-days of wilderness adventure is the culmination of the skills and experiences gained in the year-round program. Younger groups take two 5-day trips; older groups make a single 10-day trip.

Weekend and summer activities
TAASC trips include wilderness expeditions, climbing and rappelling, white water and flat water paddling, cave exploration, mountain biking, wilderness first-aid, leadership development, and community service.
